How much RAM do I really need?

It depends on your usage. 8GB is the minimum for smooth basic use. 16GB is ideal for most users including gamers and developers. 32GB+ is for video editing, 3D work, or running virtual machines.

Can I have too much RAM?

Not really, but you can waste money. If you only browse the web and use Office, 64GB won't make your PC faster than 16GB—it'll just sit unused. Buy for your actual needs plus some headroom for the future.

What's the difference between RAM and storage?

RAM is temporary, fast memory for active tasks—it clears when you shut down. Storage (SSD/HDD) is permanent space for files and programs. Think of RAM as your desk space and storage as your filing cabinet.

Why does Chrome use so much RAM?

Each Chrome tab runs as a separate process for security and stability. This uses more RAM but means one bad tab won't crash the whole browser. Extensions add overhead too. Expect ~100-300MB per tab depending on the site.

Does RAM speed matter?

Speed (MHz) matters less than capacity for most users. Going from 8GB to 16GB makes a bigger difference than faster RAM. Speed matters more for gaming and productivity workloads where ~5-10% performance gains are possible.

Can I mix different RAM sizes or speeds?
