How do I find my laptop's cycle count?
Windows: Open PowerShell and run powercfg /batteryreport
Mac: Hold Option → Apple menu → System Information → Power
Linux: Check /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/cycle_count
What is a battery cycle?
A battery cycle is one full discharge from 100% to 0% (or equivalent). Using 50% battery twice equals one cycle. Most laptop batteries are rated for 300-1000 cycles before significant degradation.
Why does charging habit matter?
Lithium-ion batteries experience more stress at extreme charge levels (very low or very high). Keeping your battery between 20-80% reduces chemical stress and extends lifespan. Fast charging also generates more heat, accelerating wear.
When should I replace my battery?
Consider replacement when battery health drops below 80% of original capacity, or when you notice significantly reduced runtime. Most manufacturers recommend replacement at 80% health.
